Reasons to Choose Fabric Structures, Tension Fabric Structures

from Milestones Building and Design

Made in the USA Quality, Versatility, and after Sale Service

The fabric structures we offer are designed for strength and durability and constructed with high quality building components:

Our steel  framework is formed and fabricated in Templeton, IA, USA, by American craftsmen:  We hot dip galvanize all our steel after the welding and fabrication process is complete.  We are 1 of 2 suppliers in the USA that does not add lead to our zinc process.  We are 99.999% lead free!  And all of our bolts, nuts, and washers are zinc coated and are sealed with an organic coat to further help seal them from corrosion.

Galvanizing is a procedure that causes a metallurgical reaction which causes the binding of zinc to steel. The hot dip galvanizing procedure meets the ASTM A123 standards to protect steel from corrosion.  The zinc chemically bonds to the steel and adds 3.9 mils,  3600 psi after metallurgical bond; which provides the maximum protection against corrosion.

We hot dip galvanize all our steel after the welding and fabrication process is complete.

Another type of galvanizing is often used by other fabric building manufacturers called  in-line galvanizing or pre-galvanizing.  Galvanizing is completed before fabrication.  Only .9 mils of zinc is added, only 300-500 psi after metallurgical bond; interior welds are exposed raw steel with no corrosion protection, sometimes outside surfaces are touched up.  Less than desirable protection especially in corrosive environments.

This is another company's fabric building in a corrosive atmosphere (compost, salt, fertilizer) who uses a "flow coat"  or inline galvanizing system such as used by

Clear Span and others.  We too used to sell it and from experience can tell you it will not hold up.

Our fabric buildings are very well built. We use a 3" x 3" square tube on the inner chord and a 3" round tube on the outer chord greatly increasing the truss strength. Our competitors use smaller diameter and round tubing inside and out.  One farmer alone in eastern Washington, in 2010, had 30 buildings go down, due to undersized and lighter gauge tubing used in the standard construction of their framework.

If you look at the cable support brace you will notice that we use a lead swaged end fastener instead of cable clamps greatly reducing the chances of the cable slipping out of the clamps due to stress loading. Our cables are quality aircraft SS, and heavier diameter than our competition. The depth of the truss for a 60' wide building is a full 24" instead of 18" like most other company's design, again a huge difference in the strength.

The building components were designed for tight stacking and easy loading to reduce shipping costs. We also designed it with easy to assemble parts to reduce the installation time costs, using a quick drop in and bolt style purlin so no spending time trying to line up holes to place the bolt. Since it always needs to be there in all fabric buildings, we made the trusses at the base plates with a pre-drilled mounting plate to bolt the 2" x 6" wooden  curb rail, making finishing off the bottom of the building during installation easier and much quicker.

The quality of our buildings is shown both inside and out,  we refuse to cut corners.

High performance fabric covers are virtually maintenance free, and have tremendous rip, tear and puncture resistance.  We also replace covers for all types of fabric buildings.

We use experienced install crews (not just local contractors) to install each fabric building. Crews who build them every day, reducing the chances of mistakes and the time it takes to finish the job. Fabric covered buildings are quick to install, and offer multiple foundation options.  They can typically be installed in less time than conventional structures.

Milestones Building and Design has expert experience and has been selling fabric covered buildings for over 15 years.  We are committed to providing you the highest level of service, working with you every step of the way.  We know these buildings, we know the manufacturer, we give you superior customer service.   We also include world class, "after sales" support, a service that is hard to come by these days.

We Have the Ultimate and Newest Technology in Fabric Structures:

The Crossover Tension Fabric Building, the Original and Preferred Fabric Building with Rigid Steel, Built-Up Beam Structural Frames instead of Open Web Trusses

Introducing the CROSSOVER Setting the Industry Standard

The Original and Preferred Tension Fabric Structures With Rigid Steel Structural Frames

Milestones Building and Design announces the CROSSOVER, the original fabric building utilizing structural, rigid steel beams instead of open web trusses is now in production.  A remarkable engineering concept created and developed by the owner/engineer of Accu Steel, Inc. The newest technology in tension fabric structures. A fabric building design that ensures the strongest structures available. The CROSSOVER utilizes the proven framework of a "steel" building, and all the benefits of a fabric covered building. High wind and snow loads are no longer problems. This is a proven structural steel system already established with engineering departments and local jurisdictions, which translates into stronger buildings and easier permitting.

The strength of the rigid steel, built-up beam, structural steel frame provides several engineering advantages.  One being the variable dimensions: Width, height, length, leg heights, inside center height and roof slope.  All these dimensions are determined by the customer and application requirements. Another great feature, not possible in fabric buildings before now, is the ability to install eaves, dormers, gutters, standard windows, standard doors, wide side doors, insulation, and liners.  And, we can engineer the building for additional loads, i.e., conveyors, sprinklers, lighting, heaters and air conditioning and fans.

The CROSSOVER by Accu Steel Inc., is the original and the preferred fabric building of those with structural, rigid steel built-up beams in place of hollow-tube, open web truss frames traditionally used for fabric buildings.  Solid steel, structural steel beams do not lend themselves to corrosion that commonly originates inside the open web hollow tubing. Hot dip galvanized steel makes the Crossover's rigid steel structural frame virtually corrosion resistant.  And they are hot-dip galvanized in a lead-free facility; no lead is added to the zinc in the galvanization process.

The CROSSOVER is an exceptional choice in tension fabric structures; a multi purpose, fast, durable, economical solution for manufacturing, warehousing, and mining facilities including the bulk storage business and the commodity storage industries. Industrial and commercial businesses alike recognize the advantages provided by fabric structures, including the low cost, quick turnaround, green construction and sustainable design.

The CROSSOVER features:

Made in the USA, produced with superior quality; world-class customer service and an unmatched 20 year warranty.  Purchase direct from the manufacture, Accu Steel Inc., through Milestones' exclusive Sales Executive, call 360-36-3077.

From 30' to 300' wide x any length, these fabric structures are spacious, the total inside space is useable. There are no internal columns or supports to interfere with interior plans. Utilize the maximum amount of space possible for any application. The dimensions of width, height, length, leg heights, inside center height, and roof slope are chosen by the customer and application requirements.

Utilized in industrial, commercial, agricultural, government, military, municipal, and public works operations, these fabric buildings are highly versatile. The CROSSOVER  tension fabric structure will ensure any project meets and exceeds all expectations.

The CROSSOVER is ideal for a wide range of industrial and commercial solutions: bulk storage, port buildings, commodity storage, aircraft manufacturing, distribution centers, logistics and transport buildings, automotive manufacturing, fuel and lubrication facilities, equipment washing areas, aggregates storage, railcar repair facilities, maintenance shops, aircraft; plane, helicopter hangars; car, truck, and equipment storage; marine and boat storage; compost storage, recycling operations, waste management; industrial structures, manufacturing expansion, warehouse storage; public works buildings; salt and sand storage, water treatment plants; special events, convention centers, concert halls, and entertainment stages; indoor sports and recreational facilities; mining buildings and oil drilling shelters; military shelters and aircraft hangars.

It is equally suitable for a wide range of agricultural building solutions: Truck, and farm equipment storage; compost and fertilizer processing and storage, manure digesting; cattle barns, beef barns, feedlot covers, dairy buildings, free stall barns, cattle confinement, and dry bed pack barns; animal shelters, goat buildings, alpaca shelters, and calf buildings; grain buildings, hay storage, wheat storage, and feed storage; commercial warehouse storage.

Variable height sidewalls allow for the height needed to provide extraordinary clearance for ease of movement, loading and handling, and entry/exit access. Experience speedy deployment as heavy equipment can drive inside and easily maneuver.

Structural steel frames come in red oxide prime steel, powder coat, or hot dip galvanized.  Our hot dip galvanizing process is done in a lead-free facility; no lead is added to the zinc in the galvanization process. In highly corrosive environments, the Crossover's structural rigid steel built-up beams are protected with 300% more zinc than competitor's buildings, which lengthens the life of structural steel.

Energy efficient white fabric covers provide an inviting interior environment which increases productivity. They reduce the need for artificial lighting, lowering energy consumption. In addition, the translucent and reflective qualities of the cover provide indoor temperature stability; buildings stay cooler in the summer and warm in the winter. These benefits provide huge energy savings.

Natural ventilation and abundant light provide a fresh, clean feel and smell. Natural light cuts down on moisture and bacteria growth, providing a healthier environment. Superior ventilation options are available. Unobstructed views with no shadows allow excellent visibility while working inside the structure.

Fast delivery and fast installation. When a building is required quickly, the CROSSOVER can be manufactured it in just a few weeks. It can be installed in less than half the time it takes to construct a traditional wood or steel building. The design of the Crossover provides prompt unloading from the delivery as well as efficient installation, which saves money.

It is fully code compliant to current IBC Building Code, including compliance to wind and snow loads, at the specific property location of the fabric building, providing superior structural integrity. Engineered stamped drawings accompany all buildings requiring a permit.

Along with the CROSSOVER  tension fabric structures and accessories, Milestones Building and Design offers: Expert project management including permitting, foundations and/or site work, fabric structure install or installation supervision, and complete fabric structures preventive maintenance service packages.

Get it Your Way - A Fully Customizable Tension Fabric Structure - the CROSSOVER

The Crossover the Original Tension Fabric Building with a Rigid Steel, Built-Up Beam Structural Frame

Maximum Useable Space

If you are seriously interested in getting the most useable space from the tension fabric building you are purchasing, take a look at how much more useable space there is available in our newest fabric building line than in a comparable arch design building.  It is very serious when you can purchase a smaller building (less cost) and get the amount of useable space you require.

Controlled Environment

Our fabric covered buildings provide unparalleled ambiance, and exceptional sound dampening properties. The vast amount of natural light illuminates every corner of the building, reducing or eliminating dependence on an electrical utility grid creating a more comfortable environment.

Fabric Covered Buildings are Brighter and Aesthetically Pleasing

The fabric cover is translucent and allows a tremendous amount of natural sunlight in.

This provides a very pleasant and evenly lit, shadow-free area that is unlike a steel building which needs artificial lighting, resulting in many shadows and dark corners.

Even on cloudy days, a fabric building does not require daytime artificial lighting. A steel building would need thousands of watts in lighting to compare to the brightness of a fabric structure.

Steel buildings have a harsh appearance, with hard lines and unattractive exteriors.  The interiors are very dark and dreary. Fabric covered buildings have attractive, graceful lines complete with rounded corners, bright white covers with color trim options, and a more unique profile than the flat box look of a steel building. The interior appearance of a fabric building is an intriguing mix of steel truss framework and a clean, crisp white cover underside. It's a much more aesthetically pleasing building both inside and out.

Fabric Covered Buildings are Cooler in the Summer, and Warmer in the Winter

The thermally non-conductive properties of the covers help to ensure a warmer environment in winter.

Tension fabric structures also help retain cool air inside the building during the summer. The non-conductive properties of a tension fabric structure provide a barrier between the heat of the suns rays outside the fabric building and the air inside the fabric building. The exterior heat is not radiated through the cover to the interior like a metal building. The bright, white underside of the fabric remains cool to the touch and the UV inhibitors reflect the damaging rays of the sun extending the life of the fabric building cover.

Tests by the SRC* have evaluated fabric covered buildings as "500% more airtight" than conventional structures. This dramatically reduces the amount of cool air lost resulting in a cooler, more comfortable environment.

To keep the interior walls cool, a metal building would need to add substantial insulation to negate the heat gain of the metal surface, adding extra costs and construction time.

   Fabric Buildings are Quieter

The fabric cover dampens sound waves instead of reflecting and creating echo effects. The result is a "hushed" atmosphere which is superior for conversation and allows for crisp, clear all around sound travel when addressing a group or an audience. A steel building would require installation of sound attenuating insulation which would, once again, add to the initial construction cost of your tension fabric structure.

Fabric Covered Buildings are More Corrosion Resistant

The fabric tension structures that Milestones offers do not contain any metallic components like metal roofing and siding, therefore, the cover will not rust from exposure to water and air. In corrosive settings, such as salt storage or locations near salt water, this translates to a longer lifespan.

The steel framework of fabric structures is constructed using hot dipped galvanized steel. To avoid corrosion problems with steel buildings, every structural component would need to be corrosion protected with an equivalent process.

Fabric Covered Buildings Have More Air Volume

Steel buildings, with their low roof slope, have a comparably smaller volume of air in the building. As a result, as the air warms and rises, it is trapped making it hot and stuffy inside the steel building.

In a fabric structure, the high ceiling and larger volume of air allows the warm air to rise to the peak of the building, keeping the ground surface cooler.  Warmer air also typically contains odors from animals and as it rises, in a properly vented fabric covered building, it will be vented out of the building.

A steel building would need to be constructed twice as tall to enclose the same volume of air. This would further add to the cost for additional leg and sidewall materials.

Purchase your high quality, cost effective, tension fabric structures, fabric buildings for any application from Milestones Building and Design.

Fabric Structures are Resistant to Leaks

Steel buildings use thousands of fasteners on their roofs which are subject to fail over time. This means thousands of penetrations and seams which may provide a channel for water to enter and air to escape.  The cover on a fabric building is neither water nor air permeable. There are no penetrations through the cover to allow leaks and drips. On Milestones fabric building styles A, B and D, the main cover is one piece and the innovative tie down system is mounted on the inside of the building.  On the style C, all panel seams are double overlapped and sealed.

Fabric Covered Buildings Have Lower Maintenance & Operational Costs

With a fabric structure, ongoing costs such as lighting are reduced or non-existent, depending on the use of the building. Building designs can incorporate options to manage the ventilation naturally and more efficiently with less need for forced airflow ventilation systems which are costly, noisy and require regular maintenance.

Fabric building covers are virtually maintenance free. They do not trap dust and dirt nor do they require painting or shingling to maintain their clean appearance.

If interior lighting is required for night-time use, because of the bright white underside of the cover, fewer lights are needed and the light is more evenly distributed. This means costs savings, not only on the utility costs for power but also reduced initial costs for the additional lighting.
